Being famous isn’t that easy – it invites all good and bad eyes. MakeUseOf has fallen victim to the same when someone try to hack and steal domain ‘makeuseof’ and even GOT success.
Yeah, if you visit makeuseof now – it will show some strange landing page instead of long blog posts laden with useful tech stuff. Owner of blog has confirmed this hacked attempt and suspect Gmail / Godaddy vulnerability behind this. AND of course a Dubai based web hosting company.
They have setup a temporary blogspot blog to inform readers about the situation at hand and follow-up. It could take few weeks before things get back to NORMAL.
“… We are temporarily moving to this Blogger sub-domain for the moment because Make Use Of’s GoDaddy hosting account was hacked earlier today and the domain name, makeuseof.com, was transferred by the hacker to another web hosting company based in Dubai.”
“… We have absolutely no idea how this was achieved but we are currently in full contact with GoDaddy’s fraud department to get our legal property back.”
“… Obviously this is deeply embarrassing for us but we will not rest until the domain name is back in our possession. We have all worked too long and too hard to watch it all slip away like this.”
If anyone knows someone at Godaddy or can help otherwise contact Aibek Esengulov at esengulov@gmail.com – Hope they get their baby back soon!
