Windows 7 comes with a “content indexing” feature to index all your drives to reduce time required to search a file by the user. Besides being useful for quick results, it can slow down the startup by loading unnecessary files to get indexed at the startup. You can easily disable this feature to prevent windows to automatically index files on your drives. This will release the used RAM during startup and optimize that portion of memory to boost up the startup.
Steps to disable Content Indexing on Windows
1. Click Start > Computer
2. Right-click on a disk (say F:) & click Properties option.
3. Deselect “Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties“ option.
4. Click Apply and OK.
Note: Ignore errors that occur during this process. Don’t worry as error can only occur if some files are already indexed in your computer’s memory.
